Useful tips when you are attending for a new jobAppraise yourselfIt can be highly valuable in career planning terms to properly assess your personal preferences. This helps reinforce the fact that you have choices, and underpins the confidence with which you go on to shape your future. Assess your self appraisalThis exercise helps to structure your thinking. Your goal is to formulate a plan for your future career that includes as many of the 'things you currently do, which you like to do' as possible and incorporates few of the 'things you currently do, which you don't like to do'! Assess your valuesYour values may change during your life, but it's important to be aware of what matters to you at this point in your career. Use this knowledge to match your values with those of potential jobs and recruiting companies. Example values may be; advancement, social, financial, stability, status and so on. Think about what is important and essential and limit yourself to just 3 or 4 essential values. Work-life balanceIf you've always had a full-time job, you may not have considered other ways of organising your life. For example, part-time, job share, self-employment, freelancing, consultancy, portfolio career, tele-working etc. You could create a work-life balance which combines one or more of these options.
