Are you ready for a career change?
You may want a total career change, to research more options in the same field, or be looking for an alternative employer, whatever your situation you may be feeling both anxious about the future and excited by challenge.
It's not uncommon to go through a period of questioning your abilities, worrying about the skills you possess or finding it hard to properly express your achievements to others.
What makes you successful?
Identifying your skills, strengths and achievements will enable you to work out what has made you successful in your career to date, and which strengths you may want to capitalise on and develop further in the future.
Try this - Draw 3 vertical columns on a piece of paper and title them 'Skills', 'Strengths' and 'Achievements'. Write down all the words and phrases that apply to you. Include skills you may have used in the past and also those you use out of work.
Map out your options - You may have more options than you think. Consider the skills and experience you have that apply to either a similar job with a similar/different organisation or a different job with a similar/different organisation.
Ask yourself questions like:
- Do I want to do this role and if so why?
- What additional skills might I need and how long will it take to get them?
- What are the financial and personal risks?
- Which organisations use these roles and where can I find out about them?
- Who can help me?
